Pizza Pizza. That’s Just Nasty.

Filed under: Food Related — Editor @ 10:37 pm

Here are a couple of incidents that happened about 3 years ago, but it pretty much turned me off of eating pizza for a long time. At least pizza that is not made at home.

I had injured my foot somehow. The method is not really important and I can’t quite remember anyway. The important thing is that I could only walk about as quickly as a turtle with a broken leg.

My wife and I were making our way home when we decided that we were both really hungry. Not having anything in the fridge we decided we’d stop and grab a pizza on the way home.

We were leaving the subway and I tell her to go ahead and get the pizza because it would take me a while to make my way up the stairs. She nodded and made a beeline for Pizza Pizza.

As I was hobbling towards the store, a stocky little guy passed me. He was carrying one of those bags that keeps pizza warm on a delivery. Being in the parking lot, I figured he was coming back from delivering a pizza.

This Pizza Pizza is at Yonge and Sheppard, and the kitchen is pretty visible from the outside, so I watched him while I waited for my wife.

He walked through the back door, entered the kitchen, put the pizza warmer bag on the counter, and grabbed a hunk of pizza dough to start kneading it with his hands. Hands that probably handled money from the customer, groped his steering wheel while he drove, and no doubt did other things hands do while he was in the privacy of his car, alone.

A pinky coated in a film of snot…fingernails packed with dandruff…his right palm speckled with a spray of mucus from a sneeze…I have no proof and I can only imagine. But it was enough for me.

I opened the side door, situated near the counter where my wife stood while she waited to be served. “Let’s go.” I barked, and without hesitation but puzzled, she left the store (I explained to her later why I acted that way.)

After vowing never to go to Pizza Pizza, we decided to try Pizzaville, also at Yonge and Sheppard. This was a few weeks later, at night.

The following is my wife’s account:

I order a medium pizza and chicken wings.

After taking my money and preparing the order, the cook shoves it in the oven to heat it. Seeing that this would take a while, he sits down to wait. I sit facing away from the kitchen and him, but I watch him in the reflection of the window. He’s far more interesting than the lifeless street outside.

It is a slow night, so he begins to work on some paperwork. Nothing wrong with that, right? He jots a few things down here and there, adds some numbers, then shoves an index finger in his ear to itch it.

Okay. that’s gross, but I’ll let it go. After all, he doesn’t know that I’m watching him, and everyone does it, right?

But he really gets into it.. He switches his pen to the other hand and shoves the other index finger in his ear. Then his pinky. He digs and pokes, twirls and picks, itches and scratches until finally, he’s satisfied. A sigh of relief quietly passes his lips.

Oh….just a second. His head is itchy now. The same hand that itched his ear now goes up to his head.

With a frenetic scratch, he looks at his watch and sees that it’s time to take my order out of the oven.

And he doesn’t even wash his hands. Just like the Pizza Pizza guy.

My wife is ashamed that she still took the pizza and chicken wings, despite watching all of this. She claims that he never actually touched the food with his hands, using utensils to put it in their boxes. But her claim doesn’t comfort me, and we haven’t gone back.

Yes, these two stories aren’t that bad you may think. I agree.

I’m not naive enough to believe food is always prepared in sanitary conditions. I know that my standards and expectations are set far too high for the norm. I know that the factory or restaurant environment is not as clean as it should be. But it’s the standards of staff, and their work ethic, that disgusts me.

Wash your hands if you’re going to be touching my food, especially if they’ve been picking your ass!

Don’t be a weenie. Things like danruff and snot are good for you, they enhance the protective capabilities of your immune system. Plus, if you got enough seasoning on the pizza you won’t taste ’em. Get real and get healthy.

At Christmas I bought my son a Pizza Pizza Club card which turned out to be a dud. After numerous phone calls and letters we still have not received a return phone call or a letter How’s that for pitiful service. We will never use Pizza Pizza again.

completely agree with you. Had the same thing happen to me last night when I went to the one in Stoney Creek Ontario. Guy handled my pizza with money from his delivery still in his hand

  4. Adam Says:

The Pizza Pizza guy from Don Mills and Sheppard area was late almost 10 minutes and he started crying when customer service told him he couldn’t charge me.

He then stormed out WITH MY PIZZA blaming me for him losing his job, so I called customer service back and told them the story and they sent the same guy back!!

he then shoved the pizzas at me and started crying again while pointing and cursing me.

after I talked to pizza pizza customer service again and said I wasn’t going to eat anything delivered by that guy, and they offered to send another pizza. and low and behold they sent the same guy.

now i can’t order from pizza pizza or go in my lobby without being afraid of this loser.

Just to note: handling raw dough without gloves is not as bad as you might think. The point is – BAKING process includes intense heat-treatment that sterilizes the product. What you SHOULD worry about is handling food that is consumed FRESH – vegetables and such.

  6. Editor Says:

Okay alex. Next time you bake something, let your neighbour take a piss and wipe his ass without washing his hands and then let him kneed your dough. You can console yourself that you’re eating well heated shit when you butter up your first slice.

THERE IS A BAD HEALTH ISSUES AT “PIZZA PIZZA”

    Tuesday Augest 25th 2009
It was a nice sunny day for a bike ride.
My boyfriend and I went to Pizza Pizza for lunch.
We walking in ordered what we wanted.
My boyfriend Don Windibank paid for the meals.
As the casher took the money, handled the cash and gave us our pop.
Then he “The cashier” walked over and started making our food.
“He didn’t wash his hands or even put on gloves”.
As we were walking away to get a seat and wait for our food.
We looked at the way he was making our food after handling the cash?
    He even wiped his nose!
when he looked at us looking at him!
Don walked back over to the cashier and said to the cashier.
Did you wash your hands and the cashier said NO.!
Who knows what else he was touching before he handled our food?
We were very disappointed, disgusted and had to leave! “Of course”
We asked for our money back, but we had to pay for the pop.
I think we shouldn’t have had to pay for a pop!
    What do you think?
I don’t think we can ever go to a pizza place again after what we went though that day!
We have a complaint about the Pizza Pizza
At 5400 Tecumseh Rd. E, Windsor Ontario.
After are experience at this Pizza place we have never had pizza or even ordered pizza and I don’t think we ever will!
To tell you the truth I ordered a rap and you don’t bake that!

Sounds like Pizzaville just north of Sheppard on the west side of Yonge. The guy there took my money, prepared the food, then sat down to do some paperwork while it was cooking. He picked his ear, scratched his head a couple of times, then when the food was ready, went to get it without washing his hands. Yum yum!

  9. Francis Says:

I just was informed by Pizza Pizza that I would have to go to the lobby of my building to get my food, however I am in a wheelchair. This is ridiculous.

  10. Marc Says:

I used to work at Pizza Pizza and it is a horrible job, they will get anyone to work there because they go through employee’s like crazy, so you will get any joe blow who doesn’t give a damn in there. The problem there is you have to be clean shaven everyday, wear dumbass uniforms and work till 3AM and then at 3AM you have to count all the product in the store to prove that your not stealing anything and u have to take deliveries til 3:15AM so sometimes you wouldn’t get out till 4AM that job was a nightmare. So the next time some moron does something disgusting to your food don’t blame them blame the corporate office of Pizza Pizza and the way they run things in there stores.

  11. Editor Says:

No matter how shitty you are treated, you don’t have the right to take it out on some innocent guy that’s giving his hard earned money to pay your salary. You don’t like the job? Quit or take it out on your boss but don’t be a prick to the customer that just wants a sanitary meal. He had to work some shitty job to pay for his slice of pizza too. I think your anger is completely misplaced.

  12. Jeff Hodapp Says:

Wow, 10 minutes late. You can’t give a guy an extra 10 minutes and have to bitch to get it free and get the guy fired. Probably needed the job bad. Hope you enjoy your pizza. It takes 30-40 to make it some nights and another 10-20 to get it to you. If they promise 30-40min give the guy a break and try to understand. There are a lot of scammers out there and they are getting people, who are doing their best, fired.

  13. Scott Says:

Ordered a pizza from Pizza PIzza, it took 1 and a half hours to arrive. We tried to cancel it and after 40 minutes of being put on hold the Customer Service Rep informed us we could not cancel the order and that they would not honor the pizza policy for being late. The Customer Service Rep was incredibly rude and unprofessional and racist. We will never order from this crap establishment ever again. On top on it, their pizza tastes like shit.

  15. Sharda Bhawanidin Says:

    To Whom it may concern,

On Wednesday October 27, 2010 I placed an order over the phone at 4:20pm for a large pizza with pineapple. The order was for a delivery. At 5:00pm I called Pizza Pizza again inquiring about the order I had placed as it had not arrived as yet. The operator informed me that the driver was running late and that I would be receiving my pizza for free. Approximately 3 min after completing my call with the operator the driver knocked at my apartment door.

I told him that I just got off the phone with an operator form Pizza Pizza and she informed me that the order was free due to the timeline. He then said that it was not and he would not be giving me the pizza. I was taken back as that was not the reaction I expected. I then told him that this is what I was told from the operator that I just spoke with. He said that he was not giving me the “fuckin” pizza. He would take it back and ask his manager. At this point I was pretty shaken. I looked at him and said I can’t believe this is happening right now and I suggested he call to inquire about the order. He repeated that I was not going to get the order for free. Then he began with an explanation of being late due to me not answering my phone. I explained to him that I have one phone it was with me all the time. He mentioned that he was calling my buzzer code and no one answered. He said that what he was supposed to do was drive off after no answer but he was doing me a favor and trying the buzzer again until someone in the building opened the door for him. He then showed me the bill that said the pizza was free after 5:02pm. When I checked my time it was 5:06pm. He said that he was not going to pay for this free order. At this point I felt bad that the driver would be penalized for the “free” order. I reached out my hand with the money in it ($10 and one $5). I told him just give me the pizza and take the money. He said he needed the money first. So I handed him the money. At this point he said “guess what you’re not getting your money back or the pizza” I was shaken and a bit scared and angry at this point. My son who was standing beside me during this exchange began to get a bit nervous. I told my son to go inside and I stepped into the hallway. I asked the driver to just give me the order or the money back. He then demanded I apologized to him before I got back the money. He said I called him an “asshole” and I needed to apologize before he gave me back the money. I told him I did not call him any names and he needed to give me back my money and leave immediately. At this point I was well into the hallway of my floor as he had begun to walk away with both money and order. I said again a bit louder to give me back my money. At this point he hand me back my money and walked away muttering to himself.
I called 416 967 1111 and was transferred to customer service department. I spoke with a supervisor Tiffany. She advised me that there would be a $14.36 credit to my phone number and apologized for the confrontation. She said there was nothing else she could do. I asked if I could speak to management she said she was the highest at this point. She mentioned that she would call the store and speak to the manager. I gave her my name for the credit for which she mentioned is only for 6 months. I asked if I could place another order and she advised that it would come from the same store and that they are probably busy so I can place an order for pick up.

As a customer I believe I did everything that was expected to do when I placed my order. I had some quests over that evening and that is why I ordered the pizza. I know my buzzer code was working because it so happened on that very day in the morning I was with management of the building to input my code and correct information. I did not curse at this driver, I would have loved too but I did not. I had quests and my son was standing right beside me. This driver was rude from the moment I answered the door. As a customer I was a bit happy that I would get a free order but like I mentioned I tried to calm the saturation down and paid even though I knew that the order was free. I cannot explain in words how I felt when this driver told me that he would not be giving me back my money. I feel he was being malicious and threatening. A compensation of $14.36 is very insulting.

I would really appreciate a call at your earliest convince

Do you value Integrity? Well I Do. I’m a delivery driver. On your Bill there is a delivery charge of $3.25. You think this goes to the driver. Well Pizza Pizza keeps it. They pay me $7/hr. I hope to earn at least $15/hr. Wage + Tips. Well B4 the applied “delivery charge” the tips went to the driver now they go to the head office. I now get $0-$2. That’s because you think I am getting the $3.25. Well that pizza arrived at your door at my expense. I value your perception but Pizza Pizza takes it cause marketing is so expensive and by pricing to be competitive the extra money covers their costs at the expense of putting down a delivery charge to you which steals from the mouths of my 3 kids. Integrity. Pizaa Pizza if I complain openly you will fire me. So be straight up at your expense not mine.

  17. louie szabo Says:

on dec.9th 2010 we had put in a delivery order at 2am.
when they asked for our phone number they gave us a address that wasn’t ours, i corrected them with the right address, then we got a phone call at 2:38am from the deliverers cell phone 519)614-9445 saying he was here with our food but after he tried our buzzer # twice i told him that my boyfriend would meet him in the lobby, when he got there there was no one there, so i called that same number (above ) and asked him where he was and he said he was at the wrong address that i corrected when i made my order, so i told him he was at the wrong address and he said o.k and hung up, then at 2:52am a woman from pizza pizza called and asked if we ordered food and i explained what happened and after she confirmed that i did correct the address with them on the original call she said we would be getting our food, which we did at 3:27am. and my boyfriend made a complaint same as i’m doing now through e-mail, and then yesturday at 4:14pm i got a call from pizza pizza ltd saying that louie szabo could go get his money back under our phone number ’cause they had a problem getting an e-mail back to him. so tonight we went to pizza pizza and after a brief argument between louie and the manager william, william kicked louie out of the store and said not to come back because he said that his order was sent out at 2:55am and it was on time. so i really hope this can be resolved and we are compensated for this. i would appreciate a swift reply by e-mail or phone call.
    thank-you for time and patience.

I had a delivery man run away from me when I asked him where my 3 pops were. I then called customer service and they informed me he was returning. Clearly, he was upset with me and swore at me while I was on the phone with customer service.
They gave me a 5$ credit. Pizza Pizza is a piece of shit.

I had a long day tiring didn’t feel like cooking and also didn’t have any money on me..knowing pizza pizza has debit at the door I called and placed an order.

Pizza guy showed up..I pay for my pizza he walks off. Set everything down my son all happy and excited…opened my pizza and It was just gross. Looked like he sat on it. I tried to take some of the cheese off the box to place it on a piece so my son could have something but the cardboard peeled off with it!

So I called Pizza Pizza back to complain about the pizza and they were sending out a replacement pizza. I was happy with that. I took a picture and facebooked it.

The guy then showed up at my house with now a cold pizza and starts screaming at me cause he wasted his gas money to come deliver me a new pizza. I told him he should take better care of the pizza so it wouldn’t be destroyed and disgusting. He demanded I show him the pizza and I did. Untouched as there was not much to even eat from it.

I asked him for my replacement pizza and he would not give it to me. He continued to scream at me how If I don’t like how the pizza is I should call someone else and order from them. Swearing at me treating me like garage in front of my 8 year old child! Finally I got the pizza from him told him I was calling and complaining about him he yelled out in the hallway of my building to go fuck myself.

I called Pizza Pizza they said they will call the store forward my complaint to them. As of now will I never order from them ever again!

Sunday nite went to Pizza Pizza at Taunton Rd & Ritson in Oshawa to order a pepperoni square..while i waited for the customer ahead of me being served, i also watched the clerk behind the counter not only take his dirty hanky out of his pocket and blow his nose, but then watched him take a little pick at his nose with his finger…..all the time while he was taking money and serving food and NOT wearing any gloves….SOOOOOOOOO GROSS that i actually walked out and don’t think i will ever go into a Pizza Pizza ever again!!!!! THAT WAS JUST SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NASTY!!!

  22. Jim Says:

just had another bad experience for the second time in your store located at 500 Rossland Road West
Oshawa ON, L1J3H2. I was sitting waiting for a pizza for over 25 minutes and then went to the counter to see what was up. The pizza was sitting on top of the oven. They said it just came out and when I complained several things happened. Number they can hardly speak or understand english. I stated I had been waiting and he said why didn’t i come to the counter. Other pizza pizza call out your number. This is the second time I have had a bad experience at this location. When i spoke to the owner and asked for his name he would not give it to me. I stated I was going to contact the corporate office and complain he had no interest in my complaint and was rude. I tired of this kind of service the pizza was cold and the personnel have no customer complaint skills.

No 14 Natalie thinks Pizza Nova is the best so far!!!

They are also very dirty and cheating people about delivery time. On the 7th May 2011 I invited some friends for mother’s day. I called them at 6.40 pm. They said they would deliver it within 40 minutes but it came at 7.37 pm. I paid and even gave some tip for this unpunctual delivery. I had to avoid any argument in front of my guests.

I called Pizza Nova 2 times to express my concerns and ask them to reimburse my money back. Like other small pizza stores they started playing games; saying nothing was wrong with the delivery.

The first lady taking my phone number never called me back to inform me even though I waited for 5 business days.

For sure I have to think about the distance!! The pizza Nova store is just 100 meters away from my building where I can see it!!

Some more stories are about to come about how hygiene they are!!! from my other experiences!!

  24. Anwar Says:

I would like to share my experience (worst one) and humiliation that I faced today in front of other customers at your Dixie and Dundas Pizza Pizza location.

Till today, whenever my family and I wanted to have pizza, the only place we use to think/go to was Pizza Pizza. After today’s humiliation experience which apparently happened in front of other customers and delivered to me by the Manager of the Store, it would be very hard for me and my family to go back to any Pizza Pizza store, especially the one at Dixe and Dundas, where we went for last 8 years. We visited that store for 8 years and that’s how I was appreciated today, made me stunned and when I was trying to drive back to my home after that experience, I was so upset that for a while I didn’t have any energy to drive.

I went to the store today and ordered a pizza, when I got my pizza I found that the pizza had very less quantity of one of the toppings. When I mentioned my concern to the the Cashier she asked the person who made the pizza and that person told me that “You know what, you may even not see the topping if I put them in a different sequence”. I told him that I have been coming to this store for so many years and it never happened, in return what he said in a raised tone was so upsetting and shocking for me, he said “If you don’t like the pizza, don’t come to this store next time”. I never said I did not like that pizza, what I was trying to say was that there is not enough topping.

For me this was a very rude and shocking reply. His other colleagues who were busy doing their stuff (except the Cashier lady), also looked at me smiling when the person said this, like saying “good job”. There were other customers in the store and they were also looking at us because that person was loud. I asked him, can I see your manager, he told me I am the Manager, I asked him can I talk to the person who is your boss and he replied I don’t have any boss. I asked him can I get your Head Office phone number and he again replied harshly, go outside it is on the sign board. I asked him what is your name and he also hesitated to give me his name and walked away, when I asked again he told me his name, which was “Imran”.

I left the store immediately, feeling humiliated and very upset, located the Customer Service number on the receipt and then spoke to the Customer Service Supervisor.

I came back home and shared that incident with my wife and we decided to just throw away the pizza (even though we paid for that) and go and buy another pizza, this time from Boston Pizzza.

I work for a leading Canadian Financial Institution and deal with Clients all the time.. For us, and I am pretty sure for you as well the Customers are the key to our Business. We always listen to our Customers’ concerns and focus on providing the best service possible. When a Store Manager’s behaviour is like this with a Customer (a customer for last 8 years) what can I expect from a Staff Member.

  25. Charlie Says:

Pizza Pizza ruined my families Canada Day experience.
On July 1st 2011, I ordered a pizza from PIZZA PIZZA. Upon placing my order, I specifically asked for a debit machine so that I can pay with my MasterCard. When the driver came to my home, he asked me for cash. I told him I was paying Mastercard and had no cash. He then began to swear under his breath (either at me, himself or the situation) and continued to ask me for cash. I told him I have no cash on me. I told him that he is more than welcome to come back with the machine as he already knows where I am located. He then walked away mumbling, what sounded to me like swear words, towards his car. I had to yell to him asking him “Are you coming back or not?” he then just sped off.

I called customer service and spoke with an Agent named Shelley. After listening to what I had to say and complaining about the lack of professionalism and service that I received when having a pizza delivered, she advised me that she had spoken to the store and advised them of how their driver acted. She then took my payment over the telephone so that we could avoid seeing that driver again. 20 minutes later the driver shows up and demands that I give him my card. He begins yelling at me for my card and my family members (DURING CANADA DAY!!!) . He says he does not beleive that i paid and that all we want is a free pizza, he began to get even more rude and verbally nasty and he then just ran off into his car and sped away.

I called and spoke with Cassondra who was apparently the higehst form of telephone management. Cassondra told me that she will make sure that the driver does not bother me again…. and that was it. No apology, no empathy no nothing. I advised her that what the driver did was verbal assault and that I should at this point call the police… she sarcastically said to me ” you can do as you wish”… that was her answer.

Pizza Pizza ruined my families Canada day festivities. No excuses.

When i realize at my home during eating that pizza that there was nothing in it that it attracts to me to come again to eat pizza..

There are lot pf private pizza store who provide not good but much much much better pizza quality than pizza pizza.. atleast topping is good atall at private pizza stores..

Its a true that.. the onion topping i got on my pizza but but but I got only peeled 8-10 small part of onion peels.. I know that each business need more profit but customer satisfaction is also important to run business that i had never got from Pizza pizza..

sorry pizza pizza nut we customer need better quality from you guys becasue ofcourse pizza pizza is one of the top pizza componies in the world..

BROCK ST. N Whitby- POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE- Anita actually walked away from taking our order to deal with another customers request, no please wait or anything just walked away.
Customer Service @ Pizza Pizza’s 427-1111 number doesn’t know how to add their order costs or advise customers that the special is in-store only even when the customer repeats exactly what they want down to the price. THEN… Because they can not provide sufficient customer service- they’d rather be out $40 for an order rather than fix the $5 error.
Bottom Line- Pizza Pizza Can’t provide Customer Service worth shit.

The only good thing about them is their store manager at the Rossland branch, now there’s someone who understands customer service.

i just want to complaint about very dissatisfactory experience at 2814 lakeshore blvd west. the employee’s name was Naseeb and he used abusive words and told us to get out of from the store when we asked him that why didnt you informed us about large pizza combo, he was quite ruthless and was very offensive. this type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and this is not happened just once but everytime at night this guy is working and he treats just the same. he doesnt come front to help and he makes us wait and then he just throws pizza and pops and go back regardless of anything. i think this is a quite serious matter and we would rather like to talk to main franchise or the manager of the store. if we didnt get a proper response soon then we would like to go to the consumer court as this is very serious matter, offensive and abusive behavior is not what we want after paying full price of pizza. I would like authority to take necessary steps or we would like to take on our own as we are very disappointed with the way we were treated today.

I called Pizza Pizza for a large pizza on Sunday evening, and because there was a lot of noise on our phone or theirs, I told the girl who had a very strong accent that I couldn’t understand what she was saying. She hung up on me!! I was totally flabbergasted to say the least! I realized that when I called the local number it automatically went to a city Pizza store or office. Why is that?? We had much better service when we used to order right from our Pizza Pizza here in our town. I can’t complain about their Pizza since it is better than some of the other Pizza places in this town. So far, we have always had good service as well. I had no idea that the driver does not get the $3.25, or what ever the charge is for delivery! That is terrible! As a customer I feel that the corporate head office should take some responsibility for their hiring of proper employees, and the handling of food. Where are the health inspectors who should be checking out these places that I have read about? I think it is time that Pizza Pizza sends a corporate officer to work undercover at some of these places in the cities!! Maybe that would show them what they should do to improve service as well as cleanliness in their restaurants. I am truly amazed at some of these horrible stories which I just read on this website!! I can’t believe that at this day and age a business is getting away with this kind of service, and no one seems to care at a corporate level of the company. I was always told that the customer is always right, even if the employee doesn’t think so!! That is just good business.

I’ve worked at Pizza Pizza for a week. Actually, I got fired today (thank god) Keep in mind, I didn’t work at a store. I was special events (so like at the ACC, CNE, Metro Convention Centre, etc)
Let’s see what’s wrong with them:
Firstly, I was never given any training, I had no idea how to use the cash register, or what to do if I make a mistake (customers change their minds once you open the cash, and you’re suppose to print the receipts out so at the end of the day, you can deduct it from the profits). I had “food handler’s” training which was a total joke. They “pride” themselves on serving “fresh and safe” food. Where do I begin with all of this? Most of our locations don’t have running water (they’re buckets with water) so the cooks don’t wash their hands throughout their 10-14 hour shifts, they reuse cheese that has fallen onto the dirty counter, oh, and they clean the trays and tongs with all purpose cleaners that clearly state that it should NOT be ingested. Everything is greasy and dirty. I’m surprise people don’t get sick from eating their food. Oh, and the managers are rude and are no help. Especially being new, you’d think they’d help answer any questions you have. It’s ridiculous. The quality of the pizzas are bad. They try and cook them as fast as possible, so a lot of the time, the cheese and toppings just fall off.
Stay away from Pizza Pizza at all cost, and especially if you’re going to an event at the CNE or Metro Convention Centre. Save yourself the pain and go outside to buy food.

Well here is an eye opener for you all. I was a pizza Pizza franchise owner. This company is ran like the mob, they rip off their franchisees every day. We get charged 12 percent for royalties & advertising every week, tax included in the calculation, and another 4% into a reno fund that we never get any of it back, even when we sell; on top of that we have to buy everything from them through what is called commissary, usually running at 15 – 20% above market price and is 40% of our weely sales. That with the “Have To” actually work there a minimum of 55 hours a week and staff pay, leaves very little left at the end of the week. Pizza Pizza franchises out to immagrant owners because they don’t know they are being scammed. They take so much from us every week for this and for that, no explaination, just a number with the charge on our weekly statements, if corporate call centre answers the phones for the store, they take another 4-700 a week for that. I got out because I heard every week of head office going in and booting out a franchise owner for being to high in debt with them. They keep your money and sell to another sucker who has to pay up-front 30,000 franchise fee. They lie, showing you false paperwork and saying your going to make a bunch of money and like a blood sucker, bleed you broke. I have seen a lot of families lose everything to this company; So this is why owners get stressed over freebees and such. This company was sued by franchise owners back in 1994 for doing exactly what they are doing today to their franchisees. They threaten us, don’t allow us to talk to other franchisees, they are scammers and thieves. Oh by the way, I got out, and made nothing, they came up with this 75 point check list of up-grades I had to pay for, which took all my money… I will never eat at Pizza Pizza ever again, and will pass on my story so no one else loses everything…

I have had many problems with Pizza Pizza. I have receieved pizzas that were literally burnt on the bottom (black) but the toppings were raw (no clue how that happens). I have had pizza that was so thin, you could see through it, and I didn’t even order thin so I wonder if their thin crust is invisble. I have had pizzas where someone literally dumped the whole batch of green peppers on it – it was literally a sea of green. I like generous toppings but this was ridiculous. And finally last night was the last straw. I ordered a pizza and the driver was a few minutes late. When he came to the door I said, “You’re late” and he yelled at me – YELLED – so loud that I’m sure all my neighbours on my floor heard him, “I AM NOT LATE!!!” Well, I wasn’t going to argue with the guy for being late a few minutes, I had the money in my hand and I was going to pay him when he dropped my 3 cokes and they rolled down the hall – he runs after them while he’s tripping over himself trying to pick up the dented cokes, balance the three large pizzas he had in his thermal bag, AND scream on the phone to someone who was obviously from Pizza Pizza. He thrusts 3 crushed cans of coke at me and while he does that, the open bag with the pizzas in it turns sideways – I imagine all 3 pizzas (mine was just one of them) were now at one side of the boxes, if you know what I mean. At this point I was so disgusted because he’s saying to the woman on the other end of the phone ” I AM NOT LATE!!! ” He’s yelling at her just as loud as he yelled at me.

I was so disgusted, I gave him the 3 cokes back and told him, “You know what, I don’t want the order.” Without missing a beat, he says to the woman on the phone, LOUD AS HELL, “The customer doesn’t want the pizza, cancel this one,” But he’s still standing halfway in my door and as I gently tried to close it, he wouldn’t move!

Long story longer, I will NEVER buy anything from Pizza Pizza again, not for delivery, not takeout. I have given them MANY chances but no more. They lost a customer.

I remember when customer service meant something but these days, it’s like they’re doing you a favour selling you a product. It’s not just Pizza Pizza, this lack of respect for the customer runs rampant in today’s society.

First off when you contact Pizza Pizza Customer Service you are connected to a company they hire called – Franchise Owners Hamilton Limited. They work for Pizza Pizza 364 days a year and are located in Hamilton across from Gage Park. They open at ten in the morning and close either at two or three am, seven days a week. They have ads for customer service positions on line every day throughout the year because they get rid of people pretty much every other week. They do job interviews with about 15 to 20 people a day – every day. They promise bonuses, which don’t happen, and benefits after eight months, but by that time they will find a reason to fire you. In the Summer the customer service reps work in a hot room because the AC doesn’t work on that floor. The second floor has AC, but the supervisors don’t like new employees to be up there and that room is totally freezing in the Winter.

So when a customer calls to complain for whatever reason, they will get someone who just finished training and is just learning how to get around in the system. Training doesn’t last long and usually omits a lot of what a customer service rep needs to know. We quickly learn that here is a time limit for each call and that we are in trouble if we spend too much time on a call. (it will be on our report) We are not allowed to give out the phone number for Pizza Pizza head office or offer a supervisor’s help. Speaking of supervisors – these people, mostly women, sit around talking to each other at their cluttered desks, eating junk food, they are all fat, and tell us not to bother them first thing each shift. We are told to figure it out for ourselves, or they don’t bother to answer our emails. The worst of these supervisors is Nora. A horrible woman who is impossible to work with and hated by everyone of us customer service reps after our first meeting with her.

I am writing on behalf of two other co-workers, one was fired and another laid off, which is the same thing. All three of us were upset about this but also glad to be away from this awful place. I was also fired, all three of us were set to be receiving our benefits within days. This company is not only unfair to it’s customers, but also it’s employees alike. We all know that our days are numbered there once we get on the floor and have to deal with the supervisors and find out what it is really like to work there. While in training we are told about all the help we will get from supervisors, how much fun it is to work there, blah, blah, blah.

Pizza Pizza drivers, franchise owners and their employees are all unhappy people, they tell us this every day all day long when they talk to us about their problems. They have to deal with new customer service people all the time and it takes its toll on them. It appears that it is cheaper to fire trained call centre employees and keep training new people instead of working with the people they have. If you do end up working for this company be prepared not to be employed for very long because you will soon truly hate being there or have a supervisor on your back who will recommend that you be let go.

Be aware that when you call to complain you have to do it right away because there is a time limit on getting a replacement order, or something being done for you. If you have a complaint about a store, a driver’s attitude – don’t bother calling, because nothing will be done, they have enough trouble keeping these people from walking out the door. Drivers get paid seven dollars an hour and use their own cars, insurance, cell phones, which they pay for, so they are really angry. They do not however, have to pay for late orders. It does not look good for them though to have late orders. These drivers are permanently angry. Make sure that when you receive a credit that you remember the name the credit is filed under because otherwise you won’t receive that credit. A supervisor can look up the name you used but they won’t do it. If you have a problem with your on line order you will get a customer service rep who will not really be able to help you and if your 11 11 card doesn’t work, etc., they will only be able to fill in a form. This form will sit in a folder until a lazy supervisor gets around to looking at it. This paperwork can stay in a tray for days. I have had many calls from customers who are still waiting for information days later.

To be fair. a lot of the on line order errors belong to the customers, mainly because they don’t up date their addresses when they move and the order goes to their old address. By the way, those types of errors are totally charged to the store only. That order may sit in their glass case and wait to be sold by the slice for the rest of the shift.

As employees we are constantly watched by many cameras, even coming and going to the washrooms, while eating lunch and while standing in front of the building on a break. Our emails between each other are read by supervisor and we are a constant source of amusement to them. They can be overheard discussing our errors and how stupid we are. Supervisors make extra money off us by bringing in food they made at home for sale. For example a bowl of chicken soup for $3.95. They put up posters about the product, pop this info on our computer screens every couple of hours and then sit in the lunch room selling their food instead of working.

Supervisors make no effort in greeting new customer service employees, don’t bother to learn our names because they know we won’t me around for long. When you contact Pizza Pizza’s website you are reaching the call centre, so basically they police themselves. They won’t do anything about complaints against their long term employees, there are a handful of them, and their jobs are safe. I will leave you with this thought – a long term employee named Peter, is known to watch porn on his phone while taking orders. His phone is on his desk, visible to anyone walking by, include the supers on duty and all of use are aware of him doing this.

I must also say though that about 1% of customers are scamming for a free order. We also hear the same complaint from customers who are usually calling after midnight, to say that they have not received their order and their kids are starving. A lot of customers are drunk and can’t accept what has happened to their order, which is obviously not our fault. On line orders usually turn out to be something the customer did wrong and it makes no sense to blame the customer service rep, although 99% of customers blame us for everything that goes wrong, including traffic, a fire, power outage, broken elevators or buzzers, or the fact that they used the wrong address when they placed their order. Then there are the customers who call five minutes before closing and get mad when we tell them the store is now closed. The best are the customers who don’t know an address for a park, a beach, or are on a boat somewhere but want a delivery. Also, the Pizza Pizza locations that are at a gas station do not deliver – something customers don’t seem to get. Customer Service Reps take a lot of abuse, and it is nothing to be sworn at, abused and treated like crap, called stupid throughout an entire shift. This abuse continues while dealing with supervisors who should be there to help us, since we should all be working towards the same goal – helping customers. I believe that some of the supervisors who have been there for more than 14 years and have to deal in negativity each and every day are beyond help.

I left a lengthy comment which I see has been removed from your site. Why is that? Truth hurt maybe? Is this website run by the Pizza Pizza losers in Hamilton on Gage? I worked there and all my information was what I lived through, saw, heard and felt. Let me know, I have it written down and can send it all again.
